APD: man arrested after firing gun into air

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - An Alexandria man is behind bars after walking down a street and firing a handgun into the air.

Jerry Chew, 30, is charged with Illegal Discharging a Firearm in the city limits, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and a Contempt of Court Warrant.

According to Alexandria Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Mason and Huffman streets on November 20th in response to the matter. 

When officers got there, a black male fitting the description they were given ran into a house with what appeared to be a gun in his hand.

APD says the officer was able to get Chew to come out of the house without incident. The gun was located and collected as evidence.
