RPSO: Additional arrests made in fuel theft

Posted: Updated:

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Traffic stop leads to arrest of suspects in fuel theft.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department, on October 30, 2013, Deputies assigned to the England Airpark responded to a call in reference to Theft of Motor Vehicle Fuel. RPSO said upon contact with the complainant, it was determined approximately 500 gallons of motor vehicle fuel was stolen from a fuel tank on Perimeter Road. This fuel tank was owned by some contractors doing work at the airpark. RPSO Detectives were assigned the case and started their investigation.

Through their investigation, Detectives said they developed suspect information which they passed on to the Patrol Division. On November 13, Patrol Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was of interest for a traffic violation. Detectives working the case responded and interviewed the subject which led to other suspects in the case. RPSO said after further investigation, more arrests in the fuel theft have been made. According to RPSO, on November 18, Kenneth Edward Barton Jr. of Elmer and Steven Paul Lacombe of Alexandria were arrested, and each were charged with one count of Theft of Motor Vehicle Fuel over $500 and one count of Criminal Trespass. Detectives say the investigation is continuing and still more arrests may be made.
