Black Friday Frenzy

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)- When turkey day ends, Black Friday begins as shoppers stream into stores looking for bargains, but this year the lines are blurred as most stores opened up on Thanksgiving Day.

News Channel 5's Rachael Penton was there, and she has the details on the markdown madness.

Black Friday...it's the busiest shopping day of the year.

"Deals, sales. Oh it's wonderful the things you can get."

Here in Cenla and across the nation- the shopping day started on Thanksgiving Day and will last well into Friday night.

"We started off at Wal-mart in Kingsville. We went to Stage, JC Penney, everywhere in the mall. Took a break at Ihop- oh Target- and now we're here," says bargain hunter Rhonda Parker.

At Academy Sports and Outdoors the line nearly stretched to MacArthur Drive, as shoppers arrived for the 5 am opening.

Shoppers were out in full force this morning looking for deals on everything from scooters to dirt bikes to Duck Commander clothing- all to save a buck.

Some families skip the pumpkin pie and go straight to the shopping for dessert.

"We start as soon as get through with Thanksgiving dinner and we usually get home about 7 or 8 o'clock tonight," says adds Parker.

While others say they wait to begin the post turkey trot until after the holiday is over.

"I'm a traditionalist. Thanksgiving I want to be home with family and it was hard," says shopper Victoria Guillot.

For those working in retail they didn't have much of a choice- the majority of stores were already open by midnight.

"We set up a special presentation and made them feel like movie stars when they got here this morning. They actually walked a red carpet. We have door prizes for them. We have plenty food all throughout the 25 hours that we're actually going to be open," says Kathie Choate, manager of Sephora inside JC Penney.

So when the Black Friday sales finally come to an end later tonight the holiday season is officially underway. Shoppers and retailers can say Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.

An estimated 33 million people were expected to hit the stores for Black Friday Sales.
