APD arrest woman in Wal-Mart theft investigation

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)  Alexandria Police Department investigation leads to theft, narcotics arrest.

According to the Alexandria Police Department, on December 13, Alexandria Police arrested Mekayla Russell, 21 of Alexandria and charged her with, one count Felony Theft and one count Possession of CDS Sch IV with Intent to Distribute.

According to APD, on December 3, at 1:30 p.m., Police received a call for assistance from Wal-Mart located on Coliseum Blvd. APD said the store's Loss Prevention Officers were chasing a female in reference to an internal theft that had occurred at the location. APD said police located and detained Russell in the area of Cloverleaf and Coliseum Blvd.

APD said the investigation found that Loss Prevention Officials were questioning Russell regarding an internal theft, and she fled the property. APD said when officers detained Russell, they located suspected CDS in a pill form, on her person.

According to APD, further investigation found that Russell had taken in access of $3,500.00 from her register during her time of employment. APD said Russell was arrested and transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center where she was booked.

APD said this incident is still under investigation and no other details are being released at this time.
