APD arrest woman for dog fighting

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) An Alexandria woman is under arrest for dog fighting.

According to the Alexandria Police Department, on Dec. 07, police arrested Courtney S. Brown, 22, of Alexandria after discovering fighting dogs at her residence.

APD said officers dispatched to Brown's residence at Bennett St. heard dogs barking and growling upon their arrival. Police said after making contact with Brown, officers arrested her without incident, and she was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

According to APD, Alexandria Animal Control seized eight dogs at the location.

APD said Brown was charged with one count of dog fighting, eight counts of cruelty to animals, eight counts of vicious dog without insurance and eight counts of failure to vaccinate animals.

APD said Jeramy Williams, 24, of Alexandria was issued citations for animal cruelty.

Police said this incident is still under investigation, and no other details are being released at this time.
