RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) An Alexandria man is under arrest following an investigation concerning an injured child.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Montrell Doaty, 31, of Alexandria for cruelty to a juvenile victim.

RPSO said on Dec. 6, a deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding, and the driver alleged the reason for her speeding was transporting her 8-year-old grandson to the emergency room due to injuries sustained from discipline. RPSO said after verifying the information, the deputy escorted the complainant and juvenile to the hospital where the investigation began.

According to RPSO, the complainant alleged that her grandson had received a spanking from Doaty, her daughter's boyfriend, and the child complained of being hurt. According to RPSO, the complainant said upon observing several injuries, she immediately took the child to the hospital. RPSO said through further investigation, it was determined Doaty used a belt to discipline the victim as he had done in the past.

According to RPSO, due to the extent of the injuries, Doaty was placed under arrest for 2nd Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile. Doaty was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and booked where he remains on a $15,000.00 bond. The Department of Children and Family Services also responded to the hospital to assist in the investigation. RPSO said the child was admitted to the hospital and the investigation is ongoing.
