ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - It was graduation day for cadets of the Youth Challenge Program.
The class of 2013 gathered with their families at the Alexandria Riverfront Center to mark an important milestone.
The at-risk teens spent five months with the Louisiana National Guard learning important life skills that they can use in the real world.
For the cadets it's the end of a life changing experience.
"It's all about mindset really, you may hate it in the beginning but in the end it's worth it because you're starting your future, you're getting all your plans together and you're planning the rest of your life out just through a five and a half month program," said Tommie Poirrier.
The cadets will spend the next few months under the guidance of a mentor as they plan their future.
