Uniforms and gifts donated to students

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The students at Julius Patrick Elementary received quite a few gifts today.

Members of the Cavalry Baptist Church donated uniforms to the school in an effort to help create a sense of community among students, but that's not all. Members of the church also fulfilled student's wish lists. Each student received a box full of toys, games, and clothes tailored to each child's interests.

"Every child has been so appreciative and thankful. I mean from pre-k all the way up to fifth grade and so they--it's been better for me probably than for them just watching them and the joy on their faces," said Casey Renois.

The celebration also included cookies, music, and dancing for students.

A slow "farmer's" rain fell across the area today as the area was blasted with tropical moisture to the south. As high pressure setup across the eastern U.S., tropical moisture banked up against it and consolidated across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. As a trough approached from the west, the high pressure pushed eastward allowing the tropical moisture to finally move northward in bulk. These types of events can produce hefty rain events around here and this event did not disappoint. Attac...More >>
