RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office arrest man for allegedly shooting horses.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, John Lawrence Shuler, 63, of Boyce was arrested on Dec. 17 for cruelty to animals.

RPSO said on Sept. 10, 2013, deputies responded to a complaint of alleged animal cruelty in Boyce. According to the complainant, Shuler had shot a number of horses multiple times after being kicked off an ATV by one of them.

RPSO said the complainant located the injured horses on Shuler's property and brought them to a local veterinarian who treated them.

RPSO Detectives said after sufficient evidence was found in the investigation, warrants were obtained for Shuler's arrest. Shuler was charged with two counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. RPSO said Shuler was taken into custody without incident and released later the same day on a $10,000.00 bond.
