RPSO: Pineville man arrested for simple assault

Posted: Updated:

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office arrest Pineville man following assault allegations.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, Richard John Chaisson, 43, was arrested on Dec. 17 and charged with one count of Simple Assault and one count of Disturbing the Peace.

On Dec. 11, RPSO received a complaint of an assault that had allegedly occurred at the Rapides Parish Courthouse. According to the complainant, Chaisson attempted to initiate a dispute with his wife's former husband following a civil court proceeding, and the victim became concerned for his well-being. RPSO said Chaisson allegedly informed his wife that he was contemplating putting a bullet in the victim's head.

RPSO said unknown to Chaisson, a Deputy observed the offense as it occurred. Detectives said they conducted an investigation and obtained sufficient evidence for a warrant for Chaisson's arrest.

RPSO contacted Chaisson at his residence in Pineville, and he was taken into custody without incident. RPSO said Chaisson was released from the Rapides Parish Detention Center the following day on a $15,000.00 bond.

"Civil matters are some of the most volatile cases we have to handle and when someone makes a threat like this, we consider it to be viable," Sheriff William Earl Hilton said.
