Deadly crash in Vernon Parish

Posted: Updated:

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A single vehicle crash killed a man from Evans who was not wearing his seatbelt on December 23.

Louisiana State Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 p.m., which occurred on Fal Road west of LA Hwy 464.

The crash involved a 1996 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Sampson M. Haus, 39.

The Chevrolet was eastbound on Fal Road when Haus lost control and exited the left side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several small trees before colliding with a large tree on the driver's side.

Haus was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center in serious condition and was pronounced dead early this morning.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to "buckle up!"

Troop E Troopers have investigated 50 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 52 fatalities.
