LSP: Leesville man dead after crash

VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - A single vehicle crash killed a man from Leesville on December 26.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 p.m., which occurred on Jean Chapel Road near VP 8000. 

The crash involved a 2003 Dodge pickup, driven by Ricky B. Stephens, 44.

The Dodge was eastbound on Jean Chapel Road when Stephens lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, Stephens overcorrected his vehicle and reentered Jean Chapel Road, before exiting the left side, impacting a piece of landscaping timber, overturning, and colliding with a tree.

Stephens was wearing his seatbelt, but was pronounced dead.

According to LSP, routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 51 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 53 fatalities.
