LifeShare Blood Centers: Make a New Year's resolution to save lives

Posted: Updated:

SHREVEPORT, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – LifeShare Blood Centers encourages blood donors to give more in 2014.

LifeShare Blood Centers is asking blood donors to make a resolution to save lives by giving blood three times in 2014. Blood donors may sign up at any LifeShare center and receive a pledge card with reminder appointments throughout the year. Upon the blood donor's third donation at a LifeShare center in 2014, they will receive a limited edition stainless steel 2014 blood donor mug.

All blood donors giving in January will receive a "Make Your 2014 Resolution Matter" t-shirt as recognition of their blood donation.

"In 2013, almost 70 percent of donors giving at LifeShare gave only one time. While that is a generous and life-saving act in itself, if all of those one-time blood donors gave blood three times this year, we would not have any blood supply shortages. Only about 37 percent of the population is eligible to give blood, and the whole community counts on them," said Tina Hooper, spokesperson for LifeShare Blood Centers.

Give blood at a LifeShare center or at a mobile blood drive in the area. Call your local center or go to www.lifeshare.org for hours and blood drive locations.

LifeShare Blood Centers regularly supplies blood components to 117 medical facilities throughout Louisiana, East Texas and South Arkansas. Founded in Shreveport, La. in 1942, it is a nonprofit community service provider governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.  LifeShare is a member of America's Blood Centers and the American Rare Donor Program, is licensed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and accredited by AABB.
