ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - For those who haven't yet signed up for health insurance, you still have time to get covered and avoid being penalized under the affordable health care act.
According to local insurance agents, the open enrollment period is from January first through March 31st.
After March 31st, those without health insurance will be subject to a one percent tax of their total annual income.
For those who don't want to sign up online, you can get the help of a local insurance agent.
"We can make recommendations based on what your needs are. We are totally capable of walking you through the whole process, from setting up your account on healthcare.gov, to actually helping you select a plan," said insurance agent Stephen Adams.
The December coverage deadline was for those who wanted health insurance that began on January first.
