Baby, it's cold outside

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - One organization in Cenla doesn't quit when the weather turns frigid. In fact, they work harder.

"I don't have nowhere to go so this is the only place that I have that's warm," said David Beaver.

It's cold outside and some people - like David Beaver - don't have access to heat.

"I've actually been staying out at Kisatchie National Forest in a tent. I work for myself doing odd jobs and stuff like that so like I don't really have a place to call my own right now," said Beaver.

The Salvation Army is helping people stay warm by putting out extra cots. With temperatures expected to reach the teens, more visitors are expected.

"Every time the temperature dips below 40, we have what we call a cold night status. Anyone can come in and spend the night as long as they're sober and they abide by the rules," said Major Ken Nelson.

The Salvation Army also has a little extra food on hand when they are under a cold night status.

"They do breakfast in the morning time and they do dinner at night and for lunch I usually go to Manna House. So I'm pretty well taken care of food-wise," said Beaver.

"People need to know that the Salvation Army is here providing the service for those in need like we do 365 days a year," said Nelson.

The Salvation Army always welcomes donations, including blankets and food during cold weather outbreaks.
