ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Local singer Ben Waites to perform free concert on Jan. 15.

A local singer in a wheel chair will perform at the First Presbyterian Church of Alexandria  Jan. 15 at 6:15 p.m. The church is located at 357 Windemere Avenue, off of Highway 28 West, and the public is invited to attend.

Waites studied Music, Communications and Theater Arts, and graduated from Louisiana College in 2010. Ben recorded two CD's in Nashville, in a tribute to his grandfather's memory, and to revive Jim's Gospel Tones Quartet.

His grandfather, Jim Waites, who founded the musical group Gospel Tones Quartet, was Ben's inspiration to pursue a degree in music, due to his desire to spread the Gospel. Ben could not read music and is tone deaf, but he said "something clicked" when he figured out how to determine musical notes from colors that appeared in his head.

The concert will be followed by a light supper and is free to the public.
