Posted: Updated:

Alexandria, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – Hixson Classic Cars and College Cheerleaders Parade scheduled for Feb. 28

The Hixson Autoplex Classic Cars and College Cheerleaders parade will roll in downtown Alexandria on Feb. 28, 2014, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Friday afternoon parade will kick off the 21st Annual Mardi Gras weekend with a salute to our military and their families. The parade will showcase many eras of classic cars, as well as participating college cheerleading squads from Louisiana and Arkansas.

The parade will roll beginning at the intersection of Murray Street and Martin Luther King Drive in downtown Alexandria. The parade will travel down Murray Street, across 5th Street, to Jackson Street, then turn onto 3rd Street ending at St. James.

Grand Marshal for the Hixson Autoplex Classic Cars & College Cheerleaders Parade will be Lt. General Russel Honoré (RET). In addition to his 37 years of military service, Honoré is chairman of the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission, and a board member with the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation. He is the author of Survival: How a Culture of Preparedness Can Save You and Your Family from Disasters and the new book Leadership in the New Normal, which details how to be an effective leader in the 21st century.

In the summer of 2012, Honoré was recognized for his leadership once again, when the Center for Undergraduate Student Achievement was established at the Southern University and A&M College System as a means to help reverse the trend of fewer African American males graduating from college, while also increasing the number of male certified classroom teachers in urban settings. Honoré is a Southern University alumnus.

Organizations benefiting from his leadership message include the American Red Cross, The Coca-Cola Company, Lockheed Martin, Delta Airlines, Inc., Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Michigan State Univ., CUNA & Affiliates, McDonald's, Crawford & Company, Con Edison and Booz | Allen | Hamilton. He continues to speak and consult nationally on Building a Culture of Preparedness, and is a CNN contributor.
