Donation for revitalization

LEESVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Leesville Friends of Main Street were surprised with a donation that will help the downtown area.

The group is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to revitalizing the downtown Leesville area and they received one big surprise in the form of a donation.

"When the mayor called me I was on the street and almost fainted to be honest about it," said Sam Kincade, the Main Street director.
Cleco power donated $10,000 to the group - an amount they hope will attract businesses and citizens to the downtown area.
"This money in a small town like ours will go a long way towards continuing the process of revitalizing our downtown. Making it a destination for our citizens and people in the region," said Mayor Robert Rose.
"We recently renewed our franchise with the city of Leesville, and we just felt this would be a monumental gesture to give a little bit more money to help in revitalization," said Ronald Smith with Cleco.
The donation will add almost 50 new ornamental lights and a new park and walking trail in the downtown area. The money will also go toward anything else the organization needs to help downtown Leesville.
Revitalizing the down town area is also a way for the Friends of Main Street to help preserve the history of Leesville.
"If we start losing our historic fabric then we have lost our story, we have lost our history for generations to come," said Kincade.

And the donation will help them continue that story.
