ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – LSU Alexandria to host National Weather Service members for class.

Severe weather is a possibility throughout the year in central Louisiana and as a result, it pays to be weather aware in order to stay ahead of rapidly changing conditions.  To help residents prepare for severe storms, LSUA is hosting members of the National Weather Service as they conduct a SKYWARN class.

Members of the Lake Charles office of the NWS will be on the LSUA campus on Jan. 13 to hold the class. It will be in the Coughlin Hall Auditorium at 1 p.m.

Topics covered in the class will include: background information on the NWS, weather observations, NWS communication of severe weather, severe weather definitions and safety tips, local tornado climatology, visual observations of possible tornado/severe storms, tornado look-a-likes and how to report severe weather to the NWS.

The class will last an hour and is free and open to the public.
