ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) Food Bank of Central Louisiana, Walmart to hold 'Defeat Hunger Bowl.'

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana announced it is teaming up with Walmart to bring a different type of bowl game this football season. From Jan. 8 through Feb. 2, Walmart will hold a food drive at 11 stores across central Louisiana for the first Defeat Hunger Bowl. All donations will benefit the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.

"Food is one of our most basic necessities," said Pierre Thomas of the New Orleans Saints.  "Yet there are hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana who don't get enough of it."

Purchase individual non-perishable food items to donate or a $5 pre-packaged bag, available at participating locations. Every donation will help people struggling with hunger in the community.

A list of participating Walmart stores can be found at: www.facebook.com/defeathungerbowl.

"You'll be hard pressed to find a community in the United States that is immune from hunger," said Jayne Wright-Velez, executive director of the Food Bank. "One in six Americans is unsure from where their next meal will come. We appreciate this partnership with Walmart to help raise awareness of hunger in our community and sponsor a food drive to help alleviate the issue."

Additional corporate partners involved in presenting the Defeat Hunger Bowl include Kraft, Mondelēz, Coca-Cola and Campbell's.
