Final two candidates interview for chancellor position

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - A nationwide search for the next chancellor of LSU Alexandria has been narrowed down to three finalists.

Luoluo Hong met with university vice chancellors yesterday afternoon. 

She took part in a forum this morning on campus at Coughlin Hall.

Hong is the vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

"The most important thing would be for me to get out so that I can meet as many people and start listening to what they saw as the strengths, the opportunities and it would start with the community, the faculty. I would start with our students and our staff and really spend the time understanding what the challenges are, the unique strengths, and then work from there to understand how I could serve," said Hong.

Also in town today to interview for the chancellor position was Andrew Leavitt.

Leavitt currently serves as the vice president for university advancement at the University of North Georgia.  

He toured the campus this afternoon and also took part in a forum in the Coughlin Hall Auditorium. 

"There's just so many good things happening on the campus. I really feel strongly about the mission of LSUA in terms of providing access to both the associate's and the baccalaureate degree programs, so I'm very excited to be considered a candidate," said Leavitt.

Moving forward in the process, Dr. F. King Alexander will recommend a candidate and the LSU Board of Supervisors will appoint a new chancellor, but no word on how long that will take.
