Woman hit by semi-truck, charged with causing accident

CALDWELL PARISH, La. - A woman was hit by a semi-truck and survived, but has been charged in causing the accident.

Louisiana State Police say that 38-year-old Dannielle Baker from Kelly, Louisiana was walking on U.S. 165 in Caldwell Parish when she was hit by an 18-wheeler driven by 44-year-old Corey Lewings from Monroe.

Police officials say that alcohol use by Baker is suspected by not by the 18-wheeler driver. Toxicology tests were taken.

State Police also say that on Saturday night, when the accident occurred, that there were no street lights and that it was raining.

Baker was charged with causing the accident, in which pedestrians are subject to traffic laws when crossing intersections.

Baker remains hospitalized.
