RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) –A single vehicle crash killed a young man from Glenmora, late on January 13, 2014.

According to Louisiana State Police, he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash.  Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.

Troopers responded to the crash around 11:58 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 112 west of LA Hwy 488.

The crash involved a 2003 Honda Accord, driven by Lauren Elizabeth Skinner, 19, of Glenmora.

The Honda was westbound on LA Hwy 112 when Lauren Skinner lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning.

Troopers said it is unknown if Lauren Skinner was wearing her seatbelt.  She received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.  Her only passenger, identified as Michael Alex Skinner, 24, was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.

State police remind motorists that alcohol has many effects on the body.  Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times.  Just one drink may cause these effects.

Troop E Troopers have investigated three fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in four fatalities.
