ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)--If you've seen the award-winning film "12 Years A Slave" - you may have seen a familiar face.

Nicole Collins grew up in Alexandria - and now she has  a role in the film that won a Golden Globe and has been nominated for several Oscars.

Collins says she learned a lot from her time on set - and it's rewarding to see the film gets this much positive attention.

"A lot of people think I'm going to have this Oscar sitting on my wall or mantel. No, I don't get the Oscar yet. But it's still exciting to be a part of a project that's Oscar nominated, that's won a Golden Globe, so I'm happy. I feel very happy, blessed. And I can't wait for what's in store for next," Collins said.

"12 Years A Slave" tells the true story of the Epps House, originally near Bunkie. Now, you can check out the Epps House at its new location at LSUA.
