"People are coming in all the time looking for those cool little products and all just for that special gift for the husband and the wife," said George Reech, manager of John Ward Ace Hardware in Alexandria.

With Valentines Day rapidly approaching, many in Cenla are gift shopping for that special person in their lives.

Cenla business owners say it all helps boost the local economy.

"You go right into mardi gras then you go right into valentines day and then you have spring. once spring hits here business really kicks off here for us," said Reech.

A special holiday season that celebrates Louisiana's heritage is Mardi Gras.

Among the most popular mardi gras traditions is the King Cake.

"It is carnival season and we are cranking out king cakes and filling them as fast as we can," said Jennifer Atwood of Atwood's Bakery.

"Right after christmas you take a one day breather and you get off into carnival season, so it is a great thing for Louisiana bakeries," added Atwood.
