NPSO: man's body recovered from lake

Posted: Updated:

CAMPTI, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Deputies and the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office recovered the body of a man from the edge of a lake north of Campti on Jan. 21.

According to NPSO, at approximately 10:26 a.m., the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office received a call from a parish resident reporting that he had found a body on the edge of Black Lake near Chandler's Camp,  off of La. Hwy 9 north of Campti. The body was identified to be Troy W. Harper, 47, of Creston, La. The name was withheld until family was notified.

NPSO Deputies, NPSO Search & Recovery, Natchitoches EMS Paramedics, Natchitoches Fire District-9, and the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

Detectives said that it appears that Harper was walking along the banks of Black Lake fishing, when his fishing line became tangled in some cypress knee stumps in the water. Detectives believe Harper attempted to free the line, when he apparently fell  into the water between the stumps, and was unable to help himself up.

Harper was pronounced dead at the scene by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner's Office and was recovered by members of the NPSO Search and Recovery Team and Natchitoches Parish Fire District 9.

Deputies believe the victim had a history of heart problems. Foul play is not suspected.
