Urgent need for blood donors

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - LifeShare is urging all eligible donors to donate blood as soon as possible.

The LifeShare bus will be set up at the Wal-Mart Pineville Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 11:00am – 5:00pm.

Also the donor site inside Cabrini Hospital will be open Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 1:30pm-5:00pm.

Several local blood drives have been canceled over the past few days due to the weather.

If you can get to a blood drive or donation center safely, please donate.

Patients in Central Louisiana hospitals need donations to ensure an adequate blood supply. If you are in an area experiencing poor travel conditions, please make plans to donate as soon as the weather clears to make up for this loss.

About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood. One blood donation, approximately one pint of blood, can save up to three lives. "The blood supply was low before the bad weather hit our area, now it is at a critical level," says Lisa Hickman, Manager of Recruiting and Collections, LifeShare Blood Centers.
