DOTD prepares for winter weather

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is prepping once again for the anticipated winter storm.

DOTD has been in discussions with the National Weather Service at Lake Charles concerning the possibilities of ice, snow, as well as sleet and freezing rain. Salt reserves have been low, but the DOTD has been working to keep residents safe - even if they have no choice but to travel during the storm.

"Obviously after the last event, our salt reserves have been fairly depleted so we are working with our sister districts to try to get more material from the north because obviously it does look like this is going to be more severe the further south you go as it's shaping up to be a snow event right now for us for what we're seeing," said Troy Roussell

Stay tuned to News Channel 5 and KALB.com for the latest updates concerning road closures.
