APD reports fewer wrecks during this storm

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Alexandria police say they have not had as many accidents with this week's snow and ice storm.

As of this afternoon they have only responded to six weather related accidents. During last week's snowstorm, APD responded to 13 accidents between Friday and Saturday.

They attribute the decrease in the number of accidents to several factors.

"Public awareness of this event, the public's co-operation of heeding to the signs of cautions and everything and just the co-operated effort of the street department and the state's highway department of getting the sand out," said Sgt. Bruce Fairbanks of APD.

Sgt. Fairbanks says most of the accidents in the city have been minor accidents with no injuries reported at the time of the wreck.
