Icy conditions persist

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - It might seem that the ice is melting here in Cenla - but there are still many dangerous areas.

"This is exactly why the road ways are still closed, especially the elevated portions here in Alexandria. The elevated portion of I-49 IS still extremely iced over. We don't expect it to be open anytime soon even though it's gonna warm up to about 40°, not all this is going to thaw," said Trooper Scott Moreau.

Many roads and bridges still have ice on them.

"As you see it's not melted, it's still very dangerous to travel I'm going about 3 to 4 miles an hour right now. Another thing that we're seeing is our secondary roads our back roads, our country roads are in really really bad shape right now. We're asking motorists not to drive on them, at all," said Moreau.

Places like in Bunkie are seeing a little more ice on their roads.

"Like in town like right here it's icy, and then out in the country, like if you're going down 71 going to Baton Rouge, it's, if you go down highway 176 by my house it's just icy. My dad had to take the backhoe actually because we have a little hill. and he had to take all the ice and shove it down so we could actually get out," said Jack Compton.

There still many ice patches on Alexandria roads - so residents are urged to drive carefully.
