Avoyelles Parish after the snow

MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - As Avoyelles Parish thaws - businesses and residents are digging themselves out of one of the most severe freezes in years.

"We were closed actually for a full, day the day before yesterday. Yesterday we were only open for a couple hours. It was difficult getting to work yesterday because of the roads and stuff but we're still trying to make it for customers and stuff like that, and now just the aftermath, just digging out snow and trying to get back into the store and just getting back into our regular day," said Duane Bonnette.

People were tired of being stuck at home.

"A lot of people out and about today. I'm pretty sure a lot of people had cabin fever so they were waiting to get out and enjoy the weather today because it's a little bit sunny," said Tiffany Bordelon.

"I like the snow but I don't like the ice. It was fun seeing the kids out playing in it. We made a sled and they pulled behind the golf cart and they had fun with that, but the ice was not fun. It was horrible, scary, and I almost fell a couple times," said Dayna Bardwell.

So as the streets thaw people are out restocking groceries and filling their tanks.

"Well today it started picking up or whatever because the ice-the roads have defrosted and the ice is off the road and they've been coming in getting back to their normal daily routine and stuff like that so they've been excited that they can get out the house and the weather has cleared up," said Brittany Ford of Y-Not Stop.

"I don't mind it, but I mean it makes it difficult with everybody with work, so hopefully it doesn't happen this bad again," said Bonnette.
