District Livestock Show

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Central Louisiana FFA and 4-H District Livestock Show was in Alexandria Saturday.

Students from seven parishes were at the LSU AgCenter showing off sheep, goats, hogs and rabbits for the livestock judges. More than 200 students came out for the events that organizers call a hands-on lesson in agriculture.

"The 4-H livestock program is very beneficial to these kids," said Rodney Johnson, the district livestock show manager. "I think it teaches them responsibility, it builds their confidence and self-esteem. When they are out there showing that animal all they are focused on is that animal and what they are supposed to do. They don't realize there is an audience of 200-something people watching them."

Winners of the regional show will move on to the state show in Gonzales, Louisiana.
