Lady Wildcats suffer loss to Concordia

AUSTIN, TX. (KALB News Channel 5) - Lady Wildcats drop fourth game in two week span with 58-55 loss to Concordia University.

The Louisiana College's recent string of bad breaks continued on Saturday afternoon in Austin, TX, as the Lady Wildcats suffered their fourth loss in five games at the hands of Concordia University by a final score of 58-55.

The Lady Cats appeared to be on their way to ending their two-game road losing streak when LC junior point guard Keana Frank hit a pair of free throws at the seven minute mark to put LC up by six at 51-45 after trailing 28-24 at the half.

But Concordia would close that gap over the next four and a half minutes, as Margaret Millings' free throw at the 3:45 mark tied the game at 52. Millings would then hit a layup at 2:26 mark to put Concordia out front 54-52.

The Tornadoes would not give the lead up for the rest of the game, as Concordia was able to close out the win after a potential game-tying three-point shot attempt by LC junior forward Kaci Willis could not find the bottom of the net, giving Concordia the 58-55 win.

In an extremely rare occurrence during the Jason Tinsley era, a Lady Wildcat opponent managed to take more shots from the field than LC as Concordia went 19-53 from the field (35.8%) while the Lady Cats went 20-49 (40.8% ) from the floor.

Willis was able to continue her recent stretch of dominant interior play, as she scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Millings led Concordia with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, and eight steals.

The loss drops LC's season record to 11-7 with a 9-6 mark in ASC play, which places the Lady Cats in fifth place in the conference standings. With the chase for the final spots in the 2014 ASC Tournament still up for grabs, the Lady Wildcats will try to improve their chances for postseason play as they return home on Thursday to face Hardin-Simmons in a critical ASC matchup that is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the H.O. West Fieldhouse.
