Avoyelles Parish School audit findings

Posted: Updated:

MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Two cafeteria workers in Avoyelles Parish Public Schools misappropriated funds by falsifying their time sheets.

One employee pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a three-year suspended sentence, five years probation, and full restitution after management actively pursued legal action. The other worker suffered an injury at work and is currently on workers compensation. The District Attorney is also seeking full restitution on the case still in progress, and no decision has been made.

"We are obligated that if there's any evidence that there may have been any theft for any fraud being committed by any of our employees, we have an obligation to report that to the legislative auditors we also have to file a criminal report that's always been the protocol for this parish and that's what we will continue to do," said Superintendent Dwayne Lemoine.

While other violations regarding school funds are also under investigation, all further training regarding payroll policies and procedures will be more closely monitored by administration.
