AMOA celebrates Black History Month

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - February is Black History Month, and the Alexandria Museum of Art has some exhibits to observe the month.

The museum is hosting an exhibit called "Reflections: African-American Life from the Myrna Colley-Lee Collection."

In the exhibit, 20th century African-American life is reflected in painting, collage, photography, textiles and mixed media art.

"Artwork in this exhibition starts with very early history of the Harlem Renaissance and goes through the Great Migration, through the Black Arts Movement, the Spiral Group and the Civil Rights Movement, right through contemporary art today," said Catherine Pears, who is the executive director of AMOA.

The exhibition features work by 25 artists and will be at the museum through February 22.
