Drugged Driving Accidents And Deaths Are Increasing

Posted: Updated:

A new study finds this so-called "drugged driving" is on the rise across the country.

Researchers assessed National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data from 1999 to 2010. They found non-alcohol, drug-related accidents climbed from 16-point-six percent to 28-point-three percent within that period. For marijuana alone, the number of accidents tripled from four to twelve percent.

Drugs were also involved in nearly one-quarter of driver deaths, drivers who died within an hour of a crash believed to be drug-related.
