UPDATE on Winter Weather Advisories In Central Louisiana

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE 1:45pm (Monday 2-10)

Here is a complete & UPDATED list of Advisories that are in effect for Central Louisiana.

The NWS office in Shreveport has updated the active WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY and extended the Event Timing for Grant, La Salle, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine & Win parishes.

This updated Advisory has not changed conditions much for our Grant (or our Northern parishes) and has been stretched forward to include Tue Night's event, as well.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from Midnight (12am Monday) to 6am Wednesday.

Rain is expected to develop tonight and transition to Freezing Rain (mixed with sleet and snow) as temperatures fall below freezing, overnight. Tomorrow (during the mid morning hours) expect temps to climb enough for precip to become All Rain, once again.
In these northern parishes, limited warming could result in an extended period of Wintry mix. Low accumulations are still expected to be low with some Glaze Reports ranging from .10-.25" for event totals.

Below freezing temps will support Ice accumulations through the ADVISORY parishes from tonight through midday Tuesday. Then once again Tuesday Night.
The combination of Below Freezing temps and continued rain chances is pointing to an environment that will be conducive for a wintry mix and/or freezing rain.

Above ground objects will see Ice Accumulations by Tuesday morning (especially Bridges and Overpasses) some trees and power-lines could be affected Minimal power outages are expected.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of Sleet and/or Freezing Rain will cause travel difficulties to affected areas. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility. USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING!

UPDATE: 7:00am (Monday 2-10)

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for
Rapides, Vernon & Avoyelles.

The NWS in Lake Charles has issued Winter Weather Advisories for our area From after Midnight (12am Tuesday 2-11), until after noon (12pm Tuesday 2-11).

The main impact includes HAZARDOUS MOTORING, Especially across bridges and overpasses.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of Sleet and/or Freezing Rain will cause travel difficulties to affected areas. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility. USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING!

As a slow moving system moves through Central Louisiana, rain chances will be very likely through Monday & Monday Night. After Midnight, Tuesday (2-11) falling temperatures at the surface & aloft will lead to and environment that will become conducive for the development of a wintry mix. As temperatures will remain at or below the freezing mark through the mid morning/midday hours, we will see a chance for a wintry mix (to include Freezing Rain, Sleet & Snow). The chance for a wintry mix will transition to continued rain as temps rise above the freezing mark
