West Nile More Expensive Than Anticipated

Posted: Updated:

New research shows costs related to the West Nile virus are nearly 800-million dollars, far more than previously estimated.

More than 37-thousand cases of West Nile, which is caused by infected mosquitoes, have been reported to the CDC since 1999 - with symptoms ranging from a fever or headache to encephalitis or meningitis.

Experts say estimated costs have only included initial hospital or doctor bills, not long-term health costs or missed work due to the condition.
