NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Detectives have arrested three teenagers in connection with the recent burglary of Goldonna Elementary School in North Natchitoches Parish, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.

On Feb. 11, NPSO Detectives responded to a reported burglary of the Goldonna Elementary School, located in the 200 block of Ash Street, Goldonna, La.

Detectives learned while talking with school officials that entry had been gained during the night of Feb. 10 through a rear door into the school. Detectives also received tips from concerned citizens in the area, reporting suspicious activity in the area the night before.

While inside the gym area, the suspects apparently used a pair of bolt cutters to gain forced entry into the concession stand area, NPSO reports.

Items reported stolen were potato chips, several bottles of Gatorade, Slim Jim's, and candy items.

During the course of the investigation, NPSO detectives and the School Resource Officer reviewed school surveillance video identifying three male suspects inside the school all carrying what appeared to be life-like assault rifles and a tactical holster carrying a handgun.

After further review of video, detective say the weapons had orange tips, symbolizing BB guns.

As the investigation progressed, detectives went to a residence in the 900 block of North Goodwill Street in Goldonna on Feb. 11, making contact with the mother of one of the suspects.

At the residence, detectives were given permission to enter the residence.  Detectives observed the weapons and stolen items in plain view in a bedroom and collected the items as evidence.

Deputies continued their investigation, interviewing all three suspects at the NPSO Criminal Investigations on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Detective established sufficient probable cause to arrest Joshua Hempton Smith, 18, Christain Lee Garner, 17, and Michael Chase Posey, 17, all of Goldonna, Louisiana. Detectives say the suspect's confessed to the burglary.

NPSO report all three were charged with 1-count of Simple Burglary.

Detectives say that the BB's gun appeared to be life like weapons and if the suspects had been encountered by law enforcement during the commission of the burglary during dark night conditions this could have turned into a tragic event for law enforcement and families.

Detective Tim Key and NPSO School Resource Officer Deputy Michael Longino handled the investigation and arrests assisted by the NPSO Patrol Division.
