Turning the lights back on in Avoyelles

Posted: Updated:

AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Cleco is still working to restore power to all customers, including residents of Avoyelles Parish.

We caught up with Cleco at the site of a downed power line on Prairie Heights Road, which is located between Mansura and Hessmer.

Cleco has brought in more than 200 additional people to help with the clean-up work.

The crew you see working here is from New Iberia.

The ice storm has mainly caused some down wires but has also broken some poles.

"When a poll is broken, there is all kinds of equipment on that pole. So, not only do our line mechanics have to reinstall the pole, they have to install all of the equipment back on the pole," said Robbyn Cooper with Cleco.

Cleco says that they expect to have a few remaining customers without power through the night of February 13, but they'll continue working in the morning to try to finish the restoration.
