Increased Risk Of Stroke In Children

Posted: Updated:

A new study reveals a link between common infections and the risk of stroke in children.

Researchers compared the recent health of more than 300-children who had suffered a stroke to children with no history of the condition. The stroke group was six times more likely to have had an infection in the prior week than the non-stroke group.

While the most common types of infection were colds or respiratory-related, 41-percent of stroke patients had an active herpes infection compared to only nine percent of their peers.
