The day began, however, cold and damp. Lows ranged through the 20s with Atlanta the coldest at 23 degrees. Leesville and Colfax were close at 24 degrees. On the "warm" side of the thermometer, Marksville had 29 degrees. The long-term daily average is 41 degrees and the record is 3 set in 1899. That remains the alltime record low for the Alexandria/Pineville metro area.
Ample sunshine brought afternoon temperatures into the 50s and lower 60s. Bellwood hit 62 degrees And was followed closely by Many at 61. Jonesville and Natchez, Miss. only managed to rise into the lower 50s. The 30-year daily average is 62 and the record is 83 in 1907.
Clouds will increase Friday but a gusty southwesterly wind will bring temperatures into the 60s. A cold front will move across central Louisiana during the evening and may even be accompanied by a few showers.
