NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KALB News Channel 5) -- A  traffic stop on US-71 South of Clarence on Thursday evening has led to the arrest of a Grant Parish man on felony drug charges according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies assigned to the NPSO Criminal Patrol Unit were working on US-71 south of Clarence on Thursday evening at approximately 9:00pm, when they stopped a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck for a traffic violation.

Deputies say during the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle had conflicting stories which led them to believe that criminal activity existed.

During a pat-down for officer safety, deputies discovered drug paraphernalia on the violator's person which is commonly used to smoke illicit narcotics.

NPSO reports when they asked the driver if he had any illegal narcotics in the vehicle,  he replied "yes".

A search of the vehicle, led to the discovery and seizure of nine rocks of suspected crack cocaine weighing approximately 2 grams.

Troyce Kendall Gibbs, 35, of Montgomery, Louisiana, was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Crack Cocaine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Gibbs remains in the Natchitoches Detention Center awaiting bond.

Gibbs also admitted to smoking crack cocaine just prior to the traffic stop, according to NPSO, and has a prior narcotics arrest history.

The vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker.

Deputies Brandon Smith and Clinton Dunn made the arrest assisted by agents with the Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force.
