KENNER, La. (KALB News Channel 5) – A Kenner woman has been arrested for stealing more than $133,000 from Louisiana Medicaid recipients, announced Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.
Dina Maumus, 37, surrendered this week to investigators with the Louisiana Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). She was charged with twenty-four counts of Felony Theft.
In April 2013, MFCU investigators began investigating Maumus, who was employed as a bookkeeper for a Metairie-based nursing home, after receiving a complaint of theft from elderly patients from the nursing home.
Maumus is alleged to have diverted checks from patients and their family members into her personal bank account, reported Caldwell.
The checks, which were intended for payment of healthcare services, were made payable to "Cash" and endorsed by Maumus.
She would often adjust the patients' nursing home accounts so that it appeared the patients no longer owed any money.
Caldwell claimed between February 2010 through December 2011, Maumus diverted 76 checks, for a total amount of $133,914.97.
