Stories and spirituals

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Rapides Parish Library hosted an afternoon of stories and songs in honor of Black History Month on February 15.

Ms. Chocolate the Storyteller sang spirituals and told stories about Harriet Tubman and the slaves.

The event is aimed to teach younger generations about their history and to always remember those who made a difference for all people.

"Let our kids know that slavery was real number one, and slaves were not dumb people they were intelligent people. These slaves had a fantastic voyage to this country, but they wanted to be free because they knew in their hearts that God had intended everything He created to be free," said Gwen Williams, who is Ms. Chocolate.
