ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Cenla residents had a chance to learn about the services the area offers at the ‘Cause We Care fair at the Alexandria Mall.

Cenla has much to offer, and at the ‘Cause We Care Fair, people were able to learn about those services.

Because we care fair is an event for families of school aged children. It's a family resource fair," said Quincy Cheek, from the LSU AgCenter.

The event included charities.

What we do is we get people around actually the United States but for here in Central Louisiana to pack shoe boxes full of items," said Katy Michiels with Operation Christmas Child

It also had exhibits about health education and teaching kids about proper hygiene and how the body works.

"It's an exhibit kids can walk through and learn about healthy lifestyle practices that can help you and benefit you throughout your life," said Cheek.

We are here to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation, and to help educate the children on how their organs function and how to keep them healthy," said Larabee Thompson, who was there representing LOPA.

One of the most popular attractions for kids was the Body Walk, an exhibit where each section represents a part of the body.

"Because you get to find out what is inside your body. I like the fair so far it's really fun to hang out with friends and family," said Isabella Willis, who participated in the Body Walk.

The fair is also designed to help organizations get their name out in the community.

"Raise community awareness so that we can get the whole community involved. We also find other people that want to volunteer here, we are also looking for year round volunteers in the area," said Michiels.

This is the 20th year the mall has hosted the ‘Cause We Care Fair.
