ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5)-- It was College Goal Sunday across Louisiana. The chance for future college students and their parents to learn about the sometimes confusing world of financial aid. Twelve campuses across Louisiana got involved including LSU Alexandria. News Channel Five's Steven Maxwell has the story.

The transition from high school to college can be difficult.

"Fafsa can be complicated." And how to pay for a college education can pose quite a challenge.

"So that's why we are here this afternoon to kind of get help and guidance on filling it out properly," Debbie Moreau, a mother, said.

It's College Goal Sunday at LSUA--a program that's designed with finances in mind.

"They're applying for money. Students can receive pell grants, they can also receive scholarships when filling out the FAFSA," school official Heather Poole said.

Ethan Ashworth is one of those students looking forward to his new journey.

"I am ready to get out and experience something new, meet new people and do something new with my life, get ready," Ashworth said. And having the resources to help him navigate through the process can help him make important choices for the future.

"Get information on how to fill out the fafsa and get a little financial help," Ashworth said.

Parents also participated in the learning process, to help everyone understand about financial aid programs that may be available.

"Because if this is not filled out properly then you risk not getting any financial aid or help with getting student loans to actually be able to pay for college," Moreau said.

This is the second year lsua has hosted the College Goal Sunday program.
