LSUA receives largest donation in its history

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - LSUA has announced the school will receive a $6.2 million gift through the Mulder Charitable Trust.

Eloise and Howard Mulder were supporters of LSUA - and both served on the board of directors.

"He'd come here and eat lunch with the students. He got to know the whole university and people got to know him. So he fell in love with it and decided ‘I want to help this university continue to be prosperous in the future,'" said Paul Coreil.

And from its charitable trust - LSUA has received the largest gift in its history.

They were the founding members of the LSUA foundation so they served back in the 90s when they first decided, ‘let's pull the community together and get some private funds to support LSU Alexandria,'" said Coreil.

The $6.2 million gift will provide resources for students, faculty, and staff. The gift is in addition to previous donations from the family.

"It's the largest gift by far to LSUA which just gives a buffer. It gives LSUA some additional resources that they can put toward a lot of programs to either keep students here, or to provide scholarship assistance, to provide the type of faculty, technology that we need the classroom to help more students succeed," said F. King Alexander.

"It sends a message to the community. People want to see LSUA move forward and be progressive and be successful and sustainable," said Coreil.
