Lawman of the Year

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - Members of Rapides Parish Crime Stoppers said thank you to one of their biggest partners.

The group named Rapides Parish District Attorney James Downs "Lawman of the Year."

Downs and his staff, along with local law enforcement, use the tips from crime stoppers to help prosecute criminal cases.

Downs praised the work of the organization and thanked the board for the honor.

2013 was one of the organization's most successful years. They fielded more than 170 tips with half of those leading to an arrest being made and awards being handed out.

"When we get a tip, it's usually a good tip and it usually results in a very good arrest that we can prosecute put those people away, get them out of the community and the person who called in is happy, we're happy and if we can make a payout to that person as a reward, we're more than happy to do so," said Brian Cespiva, a Crime Stoppers board member.

Crime Stoppers wants to remind you that every tip is investigated and callers can remain anonymous.
