"Code Red" for Ball

Posted: Updated:

BALL, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - The Ball town council is considering adopting an emergency alert system for residents.

The alert system "Code Red" would allow town officials to send out smart phone alerts, phone calls and text messages in an emergency. It could be used to warn residents about severe weather, missing children and much more.

A motion to adopt the program failed last year in a four to one vote by the town council.
Mayor Jonathan Dean wants to re-visit the idea because of the recent issues with the winter weather.

"The council, I'm cautiously optimistic, I think we can make some traction here because they are reconsidering the program," said Mayor Dean. "They did pass a resolution saying that they would revisit Code Red pending the review of a final Code Red contract."

According to the Town of Ball's website, the next town council meeting is scheduled for March 18.
